Platform Update: February 2024

February has brought fresh updates across the social space, including Instagram’s new stickers, TikTok’s partnership with Adobe Express, and LinkedIn waving goodbye to Creator Mode. Read on for all the details!

We don’t know about you, but we can’t believe it’s March already! It’s time to look back on February and check out all the exciting updates to try out in the coming months.

Looking to get a better understanding of Meta’s ever-evolving AI-driven ad tools and their impact on marketing strategies? The social giant recently held a roundtable discussion on AI in marketing, aiming to provide actionable insights into the advancements of its AI tools, as well as highlighting current trends and discuss where advertisers are directing their efforts in 2024. The session also shed light on how machine learning is helping to drive better results for its ad partners.

Instagram is experimenting with new sticker options for both feed posts and Stories, presenting fresh opportunities for marketers on the platform. These include an AI-driven "Backdrop" sticker, allowing users to replace the background of images by identifying the main focus element and separating it from the background. This could facilitate quicker image reframing and offer marketers more creative flexibility. Instagram is also testing a "Get Orders" sticker, which will make product tagging easier and allow brands to create in-stream products without needing to set up an Instagram Shop. It’s still uncertain when these features will be rolled out to users, but they would certainly bring enhanced editing functionalities and streamlined e-commerce opportunities for brands if successful. Meanwhile, TikTok is breaking new ground with Adobe. The platform has integrated its AI-powered Creative Assistant tool with Adobe Express. Launched last year, the Creative Assistant is a tool which combines various elements like trend search, top ads, and keyword insights into a helpful chatbot. This new integration enables users to generate a plethora of fresh ideas and content inspiration directly in the video editor, leveraging TikTok trends to enhance the content creation process. There’s talks of this partnership potentially expanding further, offering more creators access to TikTok insights and advanced editing tools within Adobe’s platform.

And last but not least, LinkedIn is undergoing significant changes, announcing the removal of its Creator Mode feature. This move signals a shift towards a new content discovery approach centred around topics and keywords within posts instead of relying on hashtags. This strategic move reflects LinkedIn’s commitment to enhancing user experience and optimising content visibility on the platform. As a result, users may need to review and update their profiles accordingly, so stay tuned for further updates!
